Dr. Jon Lutz
Dr. Lutz was born in Newton, NC and attended NC State University where he obtained his degree in Biological Sciences. He then went on to attend The University of Alabama at Birmingham where he earned his doctorate in Optometry.
He and his wife, Janelle, moved back to North Carolina after graduate school to begin their careers. They fell in love with the town of Wendell, the genuine people in the town, and the sense of community they felt being involved in the town. They decided that Wendell was the perfect place to start their family and help start a practice. Dr. Lutz enjoys seeing patients of all ages and getting to know each one of his patients and their family. He prides himself on helping patients see to their best ability through glasses and/or contacts. He also enjoys managing different ocular diseases and helping patients enjoy their vision for years.
Dr. Lutz is a member of the North Carolina State Optometric Society and the American Optometric Association. He is a member of the Wendell Rotary Club and serves as Mayor Pro Tem on the Wendell Board of Commissioners. He is an active member of Wendell United Methodist Church and helps coach youth sports. He enjoys spending time outside, being active, and watching NC State athletics. He and his wife live in Wendell with their two children Rhett and Kate.
Janelle is the proud wife of Dr. Lutz and the office administrator. She handles all of the general office needs, as well as social media and website management. Behind the scenes, she also does all of the office bookkeeping and helps with insurance. Janelle has a passion for helping patients pick out glasses and she enjoys helping with patient work ups, including gathering history and performing preliminary testing.
By trade, Janelle is a physical therapist and enjoys working with patients who have suffered brain injuries, strokes and other ailments at Wakemed Rehab Hospital. Janelle is an active member of Wendell United Methodist Church, Wendell Garden Club, and the Wendell Elementary School PTA. When not at work, she enjoys woodworking, crossfit, family time, and Colts Football.
Kevin’s optical career began over 30 years ago while serving 12 years with the US Navy. He began working in San Diego, California where he worked as a hospital corpsman and optician. In this role, he manufactured glasses for both active duty and retired military personnel. He then transferred to Yorktown, Virginia followed by Great Lakes, Illinois where he worked in the eye clinic and optical lab providing glasses for new recruits enlisting in the Navy.
After completion of his military service, in 1996, he began working for Doctors Vision Center where he worked for 17 years. He served many roles at Doctors Vision Center, working at the front desk, as an optometric technician, and as an optician. He then transferred to Eye Care Center where he worked for 2 years providing technician training and assisting with the installation of new computer software for all corporate offices.
Kevin’s friendly personality and positive attitude make him a great asset to our team at Wendell Eye Care. He strives to make sure all of our patients love their eyewear and their visit to our office. He takes time with each patient to ensure that they are 100% satisfied with their glasses, with comfort and clarity being his number one goals.
When not at the office, Kevin enjoys golfing, fishing, cooking and spending time with his Fiancée and daughter Maya. He also loves hanging out with his two sons, Joseph and Ryan.
Dan moved from Pennsylvania after graduating from Pennsylvania State University with a degree in psychology in 1999. Shortly after moving to North Carolina, he began working in a full service lab manufacturing eyewear. It was during this experience that he found his passion for the unique blend of eyewear fashion and medical function.
In the years since his start in manufacturing eyewear, he has extended his skill set to the selection and fitting of frames and lenses for patients to meet their individual needs. He has devoted himself to staying educated on the newest technological advances of lenses and lens treatments as well as the trends of frames and fashion. Dan’s passion for individualized care while selecting frames and lenses for each patient that walks into our office makes him a perfect fit for our optical team!
Dan has been a resident of Wendell since 2002 and is thrilled to now work in his hometown. When not at work, he enjoys reading and spending quality time with his wife Chazlyn and their two children, Minnie and Roland.
Nichole is a native of Zebulon, NC and began her career in optometry over 5 year ago. She received her medical administrative and health records certifications following graduation and began her career in eye care shortly thereafter. Prior to becoming an optometric technician, Nichole worked as a patient care coordinator performing patient scheduling, check in/out, and front desk duties. Following two years as a patient care coordinator, she transitioned to the role of optometric technician. As optometric technician, Nichole conducts all preliminary vision tests prior to your eye examination and assists Dr. Lutz with special testing and other patient care needs as they arise. Nichole’s excellent work ethic and attention to detail make her the perfect fit for this role in our office. She strives to ensure that each patient feels comfortable during their appointment and that their visit is as smooth and efficient as possible.
Nichole lives in Zebulon with her husband and two sons. She enjoys going to White Lake with her family as often as possible! When not at the lake, she enjoys spending time outside, watching her sons play sports and spending time with family and friends.
April began her career in the optical industry in 2000 as an optical consultant. Since then her career has flourished as she has taken on various roles in the optometry industry including optician, insurance specialist, and practice manager.
In April of 2015, she joined our Wendell Eye Care team as our insurance specialist. Since that time, April has taken on many roles in our office, including assisting patients with their eyewear selection in our optical. Her passion is helping patients find the “perfect” eyewear for their lifestyle so that their glasses are functional and fashionable.
April takes pride in making sure that our patients are greeted in a prompt and friendly manner and that your visit to Wendell Eye Care is a pleasant experience. She is always ready and willing to answer any questions that you may have regarding insurance or your visit with us. April currently lives in Bunn with her boxer, Maggie. In her free time, April enjoys spending time with her nephews, friends and family.
Patient Care Coordinator
Sara has multiple years of experience in the customer service industry. She graduated from Bryman College for Medical Assisting in Los Angeles, California. In 2004, she moved to NC to be closer to family and begin her career in the medical field. She has over 8 years of experience as patient care coordinator in medical practices. We are excited to have Sara on our team as she continues to utilize her exceptional customer service skills as patient care coordinator in our office.
As patient care coordinator, Sara will be the first face you see as you enter our office. Her main roles include scheduling appointments, answering phones, verifying insurance, and assisting patients with check in and check out. Sara’s warm and friendly personality and kind heart make her the perfect fit for this role. She is sure to greet you with a smile and ensure that your experience with our office is pleasant from start to finish.
Sara lives in Wendell with her husband and 2 daughters, Araceli and Annalia. She is an active member of Hephzibah Baptist Church where she serves in the children’s department. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family, travelling and watching movies.
Patient Care Coordinator
Chelsea has over 3 years of experience as a patient care coordinator from multiple healthcare fields, including pediatrics and gynecology. She graduated from Wake Tech in 2015 with a degree in Medical Administration, in order to pursue her career as a patient care coordinator. Chelsea strives to make each person that comes into our office feel welcome and appreciated. Her goal is to put a smile on every person’s face that she meets.
Chelsea is one of the first people you will meet as you enter our office. As a patient care coordinator, her roles include answering phones, insurance verification, scheduling appointments, and assisting patients with check in and check out. Chelsea’s positive attitude and caring heart making her the perfect fit for this role.
Chelsea is a native of Wendell and she loves being able to work in the community that she calls home. She lives in Wendell with her husband and three boys. When they’re not working or on the go, Chelsea and her family love riding four wheelers, going to the beach or mountains and hanging out with family and friends.
